Tom was born on January 21, 1944, in Oakland, California, to Ronald Raymond Dysart and Lucille Ivadell Steussy.
Tom grew up on the coast of California. He and his brother loved exploring the ocean and beaches there. Later in his life, he enjoyed taking his kids on summer vacations to show them the places that were dear to him. In his youth he discovered his passion and talent for music – specifically jazz. He honed his skills on the trumpet and piano. He loved entertaining people by playing music and telling jokes. Tom found joy in the simple things that brought him meaning.
Tom attended BYU in Provo, Utah after serving a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He held many callings and positions in his wards throughout his life and found fulfillment serving there.
While living in Utah, Tom met and married his wife, Tish, whom he loved deeply. Their marriage was a wonderful example of the friendship and companionship anyone could hope for. She was his rock and best friend. Their home and neighborhood in Sandy was their happy place.
Tom shared a special connection with animals - specifically his cats, who were more than just pets, they were members of his family. He also loved nature in a variety of ways. He took pleasure in gardening and being outdoors. He and Tish enjoyed camping, road trips, and being with family.
