Thomas Joseph Looser

November 4, 1951 — February 1, 2024

Thomas Joseph Looser died at his home in Salt Lake City, Utah on February 1, 2024. He was born on November 4, 1951, also in Salt Lake. The oldest of 5 children, he was born the same year that his parents, Joseph B. Looser and Elizabeth Strub Looser, immigrated to Utah from Switzerland, a heritage of which he was always very proud. He grew up speaking both English and Schweizer Deutsch. Often translating between his grandparents and wife as they got to know each other. He also valued his dual US/Swiss citizenship, which he secured while still in high school.

Tom was a graduate of West High School, class of 1970. He attended the University of Utah. He worked most of his life in the architectural profession and construction trades. Applying his artistic skills in the former and learning the latter from his father, who specialized in building large architecturally designed homes throughout the Salt Lake Valley.

Tom married Terry Lee Cantrell. They divorced. He married Mary Anne Eddy on August 19, 1978. They were together for 45 years and she was with him when he died. They have two children Anne Marie Looser and Michael Thomas Looser.

He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and as a young man served a mission to California. During his last years, the members of the Cannon 5th Ward in the Glendale area were exceptionally caring and supportive of both Tom and Mary. We were thankful for everything they gave us, especially Ifa Motuliki. Thank you, Ifa.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Susan Looser. He is survived by his wife and children. Also, by his brother David Looser, sisters Ruth Wood, and Heidi Pearson.

Tom was a kind and gentle soul who knew much pain in his life, both mental and physical, and showed immense strength as he just kept moving forward, despite what was happening to him. He was always there with a “thank you” or an “I love you” no matter what. I Love you and always will. You touched my soul and became a part of me. You are with me now.

There will be a celebration of life on Saturday, March 16, 2024 from 12:00-2:00PM at the Cannon 5th ward (1250 West 1400 South, Salt Lake City).
