March 5, 1976 — September 28, 2023

West Valley City

Timothy (TJ) George, age 47 – son, brother, friend, husband and father – passed away unexpectedly in his home on September 28, 2023.

TJ, eldest of 5 siblings, was born on March 5, 1976, to Marty George and Cathy Winward in Idaho. His childhood was filled with baseball, shooting bows, fishing and riding his favorite horse, Smokey. He graduated from Hillcrest High School in 1994 and attended college afterwards in Arizona.

In a word, TJ was inquisitive, and his keen intellect drove his pursuits. Some of his passions included reading books, bowling, riding his motorcycle, music, baseball, trivia, the outdoors, treasure hunts, being a father and uncle and watching anything on the history channel. TJ wanted to learn and understand everything around him and loved researching conspiracies and the unknown. We all knew we’d lose playing any kind of trivia game with him – we’d constantly tease him about being full of “useless information.”

TJ always said he felt more like himself and “at home” in the mountains than he did anywhere else. The outdoors made him feel limitless with genuine freedom and happiness. He enjoyed hunting and camping with dear friends and family and would have lived every day shaded by trees, away from the city, if he could have.

He felt the same way about riding his motorcycle. He would use any excuse to go for a ride, even if it was just down the street on an errand. He loved telling stories about his long motorcycle trip to the Grand Canyon and also taking his son, Brandon, on organized rides, where Brandon was known to fall asleep on the back. Riding gave TJ a strong and manly image and he LOVED it! He’d always boast about how people would look at him in his leather vest, riding boots, do-rag and sunglasses like he was a rockstar.

TJ was tough and stubborn at times, but he also had an enormous heart and great sense of humor. He was generous, loyal, and brave. He was clever and passionate. He was full to the brim with life experiences: living in 4 different states, taking many adventures with friends and family, archery competitions, working in many different types of jobs and his favorite adventure – being a father.

TJ will always be remembered for his love, laughter and stories. We know he is now at peace – no longer in pain and surrounded by loved ones. He is survived by his wife Stephanie Dana George, his daughter, Kylie Heidt and his son Brandon George. He is also survived by his grandfather Daniel (Patty) Buckner, his father Marty (Winona) George, his mother Cathy (Badger) Winward, all his siblings; Candice (Tyson) Monson, Gavin (Brook) George, Jesse (Madelyn) George and Hayden Winward. Also, family friend (brother) Jesse Orchard and 11 nieces and nephews.  He is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Don (Ruth Jennette & Vilate) George and maternal grandmother Sonja Buckner.

In this tragedy, let us find and encourage within ourselves and within our families, those gifts that make each of us special: the extraordinary beauty of the simple human heart.
