Vauna Mae (Leany) Paxton

May 30, 1923 — December 14, 2014

East Millcreek, Utah—Vauna Paxton died peacefully in her sleep on December 14, 2014, at the age of 91.  She was born on May 30, 1923, in Hurricane, Utah, the second of eight children born to Hyrum Nelson Leany and Viola Delsy Workman Leany.  Vauna grew up in St. George, Utah, and graduated from Dixie High School.  She married Baker James Paxton on December 15, 1942, while he was on leave from the U.S. Army.  While dad was in Europe she worked at Hill Field in the inventory department.  At the end of WWII, they made their home in Salt Lake City.

Mom had many skills as a homemaker, was an excellent cook, and enjoyed raising tomatoes and raspberries.  She was also very frugal and taught her children by example to appreciate what they had.  She worked in the school lunch program at Skyline High School for 31 years.

Mom was a member of the LDS church and served faithfully in various callings.  She especially loved her service in the Relief Society and working with children in the Primary.  She also enjoyed being in the neighborhood Dinner Club, Book Club, and Daughters of the Utah Pioneers-- Wagon Wheel Camp.  She was an ardent JAZZ fan.  Vauna was a soft spoken and kindly woman who never had a bad word to say about anyone.  She was loved by everyone who knew her.

Vauna is survived by her children, Ronald (Karen), Marvin (Vickie), and Lisa, 10 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren.  She is also survived by brothers Vard and Eugene, and sister Laurelle.  She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Duane, and sisters Laurice, Erva, and Delsene.

A viewing will be held Fri. Dec 19, 6:00-8:00 pm at Holbrook Mortuary, 3251 S.  2300 E., SLC, Utah.  Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am, Sat. Dec 20, at the East Millcreek 7th Ward, 3408 S. Celeste Way (3100 E.), SLC, Utah, where a viewing will also precede the services from 9:30-10:30 am.  Interment will be at the Larkin Sunset Gardens Cemetery.  Messages to the family can be posted at: www.HolbrookMortuary.com
