Venice Ileen Erickson Carty

Venice Ileen Erickson Carty passed away on November 17, 2025, at her assisted living in Taylorsville, Utah. She was 101 years old, and was of sound mind and body until almost the very end.

She was born on July 29, 1924, in Tooele, Utah, to Clifford and Bertha Erickson. She married Samuel Charles Carty on May 3, 1944, in Tooele. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. They were the parents of two sons, Dennis and Rick. Venice has always been an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and her testimony never wavered.

Venice loved handiwork, crocheting, knitting, and sewing. She loved to crochet doilies, afghans, and hats, and made all of her grandchildren’s Halloween costumes and Easter dresses for her granddaughters for many years. She taught herself to knit and crochet by reading books.

Venice worked at LDS Hospital as a clerk in Labor and Delivery for 31 years, and loved her job.

Venice’s whole life was her family. She always put them first and did her best to help them and be there for them. She loved her grandchildren very much and was very proud of all their accomplishments.

Venice is survived by her son, Rick Carty, and two daughters-in-law, Carolyn and Sheila. Also her grandchildren Jennifer (Lynn) Rawlinson, Raquel McMillan, Clifford (Debi) Carty, Denny (Shelley) Carty, Brittney Meik, Ryan (Sheryl) Carty, Emily (Loni) Mahanga, Dylan (Rosa) Carty, Robbie (Emily) Carty, and Austen (Katie) Carty. Also, 26 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clifford and Bertha, her husband, Sam, son, Dennis, sister Verla Kopfer and husband Wally, brother Lloyd Erickson and wife Dorothy.

A celebration of Venice’s life will be held on Monday, November 24, 2025 at Memorial Lake Hills Mortuary, 10055 South State Street, Sandy, Utah, with a viewing from 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM and memory sharing from 11:00 AM - 11:45 AM. Interment will be at Tooele City Cemetery, 255 South 100 East, Tooele, UT. 84074.
