Vergil Morris Webb

January 14, 1921 — January 8, 2009

Vergil Morris Webb, age 87, passed away peacefully at home on the evening of January 8, 2009, just 6 days short of his 88th birthday. He was so proud to be the oldest Webb in his family to ever live. He was born on January 14, 1921 to George Alfred and Zina Isadora Morris Webb. He married Marian Heywood on October 15, 1948 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple by Apostle Mark E. Peterson. He grew up in the Sugar House area in the Forest Dale Ward, and attended Forest and Columbus Elementary Schools, Irving Junior High and graduated from South High School in 1938. He also received his Associates Degree from LDS Business College. He was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints his entire life, and held many callings, most notably as Gospel Doctrine teacher. His knowledge of the gospel and church History was second to none. He was currently the historian for the East Mill Creek North 1st Ward. He had one of the most impressive libraries in the church, and people would come from all over and be amazed by what he had collected. He served an honorable LDS Mission in the Northwestern States Mission, and returned to that area and served his country honorably during World War II. He was proud to be an Army Veteran. He had a strong work ethic, and was a loyal and dedicated worker for American Oil and Union Pacific Railroad for his entire working life. He showed his family that he loved them by always providing for their needs. There was always a wonderful dinner on the table, and he had a food storage which exemplified the words of the prophet. He was a great Father, Grandfather, brother and friend. He had a quick wit, and had some of the funniest sayings. He was fun to be around, and will be greatly missed. We are comforted to know that he is free from any pain or limitations which he experienced in this life. Vergil is survived by his five children: Larry, Kimball (Gayle), Douglas, Jill (Michael) Brown, and Russell; as well as 10 grandchildren and 2 great-grand children. He is preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Marian; and 4 brothers and 1 sister. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, January 13, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the LDS Chapel located at 2125 E. Evergreen Ave. (3435 S.). Friends and family may visit Monday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Holbrook Mortuary, 3251 S. 2300 E., and at the church Tuesday morning from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. prior to the services. Interment: Larkin Sunset Lawn Memorial Park. Condolences may be sent to the family at: www.holbrookmortuary.com
