Verla Coon Withers
Veral Coon Withers passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on January 14, 2023. Just 4 days from her 93rd birthday which she was trying to avoid celebrating in any way she could.
Verla was born January 18, 1930 in Murray, Utah to Wilford & Zula Coon. Veral married Rumel J. Withers on November 17, 1950 in the Salt Lake, LDS Temple. They were happily married for 70 years.
Together they raised 6 children Blaine, Scott, Cory, Deanna, Joan, and Jan. The family made their home in Hunter and later moved to Bennion (Taylorsville). After retirement they lived in St. George but found being away from family too difficult and returned home to the Taylorsville area.
Verla served many callings in the LDS Church and enjoyed her callings very much. Verla loved her family. After her sister Leona passed at a young age, Verla stepped in and helped raise her nieces, Kathy, Jeanne, and nephew Mike. Verla loved genealogy and spent countless hours researching ancestors and creating books of genealogy to pass to her children and grandchildren. Verla was a talented seamstress and worked at Beehive Clothing but her passion was making her granddaughters frilly matching dresses. With two sets of twins in the family (Daughters and Granddaughters) there were a lot of dresses to be made.
Verla loved baking and enjoying a sweet treat. Upon visiting the Withers home, you would often smell her fresh baked bread.
Verla was kind, loving and nurturing soul to her 15 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren. She shared her hobbies including sewing with them from a young age. A visit to grandma’s house was always a special treat for all of them!
Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 23, 2023 at the LDS Ward House on 1327 West 5550 South, Taylorsville, UT. Services will begin at 10:45am with a viewing from 10:00am – 10:30am.
Graveside services to be held at a later date.
Verla is survived by her sister-in-law, Reona Withers Thayne, her children Blaine (Lynn) Withers, Scott (Melanie)Withers, Deanna (Dave) Wright, Cory (Kristy) Withers, Joan (Kent) Hales, Jan (Kenny) White, grandchildren, great and great greats. The family finds peace in Verla’s passing after a long life of service to others and that she has now joined her eternal family in Heaven.Service Information
