Virginia Rideout Bruse

February 14, 1924 — September 5, 2010

Virginia Rideout Bruse was born on Valentine's Day 1924 to Joseph Lawrence and Lidy Henrietta Sorensen Rideout in Salt Lake City, Utah. She graduated from East High School and later received her Cosmetology degree. She married Benjamin Bernard Bruse in 1946 in the Salt Lake Temple, later divorced. She was the source of strength and inspiration to her seven children. She loved the outdoors and spent many days with her children hiking, collecting rocks, and finding beauty in the simple things around her. She never met a rock she didn't love. She ran the Vanity Fair Beauty Salon in her home for many years. She later earned a Nursing degree from Brigham Young University in 1976. Virginia was the oldest graduate from the School of Nursing. She enjoyed working at Cottonwood Hospital for more than 30 years. She was an active and faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She has continuously served in the Auxiliaries of the church and after retiring she labored as a humanitarian Missionary in Romania, working with the team of Health Care Professionals that opened that country to missionary work in 1991. She gave a piece of her heart away when her eldest daughter Virginia Ann died as a toddler after an accidental fall. She wore her life out serving her family and fellowmen. She was a devoted loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, Nurse and Humanitarian. She died surrounded by her children and younger sister Marion Rideout Conrad September 5, 2010.

She is survived by her children, Jean (Mike) Stevenson, David (Judy) Bruse, Carol Rideout, Julie (Jack) Arguello, Douglas (Jeana) Bruse, Daniel (Stephanie) Bruse; 25 grandchildren, 23 Great grandchildren; Sister Marian (Charles) Conrad. Preceded in death by her daughter Virginia Ann, brother Douglas, & infant sister Mary Ann, and Parents Joseph Lawrence and Lidy Henrietta Sorenson Rideout.

Friends and associates may call Thursday September 9th from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Holbrook Mortuary, 3251 S. 2300 E. Salt Lake City. Funeral services will take place Friday September 10, 2010 at the Valley View 4th Ward building 2125 E. Evergreen Ave (3435 S.) at 11:00 a.m. with a viewing before the services from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.. Interment will be at the Salt Lake City Cemetery following services. Family requests that in lieu of flowers donations should be made in Virginia's name to the Clinical Neurosciences Disorders Department at the University of Utah Medical Center (Alzheimer's Clinic, 729 Arapeen Dr., SLC, UT. 84108) to assist with Alzheimer's Disease research, or to the Missionary Fund of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
