Virginia Olson

Virginia De Jong Olson, aka Momma Ludwig, passed away October 4, 2023 at her home in West Valley City, Utah, at the young age of 65.

Virginia was born December 11, 1957 in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Maarten and Maartje De Jong. She graduated from West High School and started a family shortly after. Virginia married Wayne Ludwig in 1976 and together they had five children. They later divorced, and she married Peter Olson in 2014. Virginia worked at Harmons for 27 years. Sadly, she didn’t make it to her retirement planned for next year.

Virginia was a kind and selfless person who always put her family’s needs first. She loved spending time with her husband, children, and grandchildren. Virginia enjoyed going on family camping trips and other outdoor activities. She liked a good book and an occasional stiff drink. Her family is extremely lucky to have had her in their lives. She was taken from us far too soon, and her absence will be noticed by many.   

Virginia is survived by her husband Peter Olson; her son, Jason (Jeanine) Ludwig; her daughters, Catherine (Jeremy) Huhtala, Tammy (Dominic) Duran, Cindy (Justin) Stanley, and Melissa (Jordan) Knighton; her sister, Teresa (Brent) Hyde; and sixteen grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Maarten and Maartje De Jong; and her brothers, Glenn and Marty De Jong. 

A viewing will be held on Tuesday, October 10, 2023 from 6-8 pm at Memorial Redwood Mortuary & Cemetery located at 6500 S Redwood Road, West Jordan, UT.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 11, 2023 at 11 am at Memorial Redwood Mortuary & Cemetery located at 6500 S Redwood Road, West Jordan, UT. A graveside service will immediately follow. A viewing will be held from 10-10:45 am, prior to the funeral services. 

The funeral services will be streamed.
