Virginia Latimer Savage

March 17, 1922 — December 25, 2009

Virginia Latimer Savage was received into the arms of her Savior on December 25, 2009.

Virginia was born on March 17, 1922 to John Girard and Pearl White Latimer in Salt Lake City Utah. She married her childhood sweetheart Gilbert Owen Savage on October 18, 1940 in the Salt Lake Temple. Gil still survives. From that union 6 children were born and survive. Beverlee Krehmeyer (Fred) Grand Junction, CO; Carol Standley (Glenn), Salem, OR; Gilbert Jr. (Jenette) Orem, UT; Linda Hansen(Lynn) Salt Lake City, UT; Margaret Parke (William) Drummond, MT; and Sylvia Riley (David) Caldwell, ID. She is also survived by 26 grandchildren, 66 great-grandchildren one great great-grandson and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her sister Barbara Catrow. Virginia and Gil spent their early years raising their children on a cattle ranch in Montana. They moved to Salt Lake City and built their home on a quiet piece of property next to Virginia's father in 1975.

Gil and Virginia were called to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Sao Paulo, Brazil and were the first proselyting couple called to that country. They served for 18 months. Virginia has always been active in her church, and accepted callings from Primary teacher to Relief Society President, to youth leader and teacher. She was also an accomplished musician, and played both the piano and organ for church meetings.

Virginia was most comfortable surrounded by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved them dearly and delighted in their many talents. One of her greatest joys was holding each tiny newborn great-grandchild for as long as they would let her. She was a talented woman and her baking skills were second to none. Ask anyone who had sampled her pies, cinnamon rolls, or cream cakes and they will tell you there are none better. She was an artist, a writer, a creator, a homemaker, and last but not least, a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. The roles which she loved the best. Her faith in the Lord kept her strong as she struggled for life during the past 4 years.

She would especially like to remember the loving care given to her by her Hospice team Debi, Brenda, Jody, and the other Hospice volunteers. She loved them as her own. Lastly she would like us to remember Dieter the dog, who brightened up the last months of her life days with snuggles.
