Wallace Laburnal Gibson

Wallace LaBurnal Gibson was born May 18, 1923 in Markham Gulch Bingham Canyon, Utah to H. Kenneth Gibson and Hannah Marchant. Wally grew up in Park City, Utah where he played tuba in the "Award Winning Park City High School Marching Band".  He married his sweetheart Maurine Williams on Aug 15, 1942. Enlisting in the Army Air Corp, he served in WWII as an aircraft mechanic (he retired from the Air Force a Lt. Colonel). After the war, he worked as an assayer in Park City before moving to Logan to attend the "AC"...GO AGGIES! Upon graduating, Wally began his career at the VA Hospital in SLC. He was a manual arts therapist and retired as Department Chief. A founding member of "The Geezers", Wally enjoyed decades of bowling, golfing, and socializing. Maurine and Wally were married for 59 years and loved camping, fishing, travelling and league bowling together. A well-loved Little League coach, Wally also did his best to keep the local Girl Scout troops' cookie sales strong.

Wally knew everywhere he went "like the back of his hand" and stopped at every historical marker in the western United States. He left his posterity with many words to live by: "You're going to go and you're going to have fun whether you like it or not!"; "If you can't do it right, make it look intentional."; "You aren't sugar, you won't melt!"; "This too shall pass...".  Papa said he wouldn't take a million dollars in exchange for all of his life's experience but wouldn't pay a dime to do them all over again.

Wally passed away peacefully the morning of Aug 11, 2016 at the age of 93 from causes incident to age.

Wally is survived by daughter, Joy Bossi of Kearns; son, Ken Gibson (EmiLei) of Kailua, Hawaii; sister, Patsy (Paul Peterson) of St. George; 7 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Maurine; son-in-law, Joseph Bossi; sisters, Donna and Deyon; and dear friend, Mary Jane Williams.
