Born in Wamego, Kansas, September 22, 1920 to Leland and Velma Kastner Vilven, died January 8, 2010.
He served as a radio operator on a blimp during World War II and was awarded the Air Medal for his service. He began working as an insurance claims adjuster for Kansas Farm Bureau and did claims adjusting for Iowa National Mutual Insurance Co. in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Scott Wetzel Co. in Salt Lake City, Utah. He retired from the pension department at First Security Bank in Salt Lake City and he and his wife spent many of their retirement years in Sun City, Arizona.
He leaves behind his wife of 67 years, Dorothy; two sons, Douglas (Denise) Salt Lake City, Utah, and Jon (Larkin) Crescent City, California; grandchildren, Mike Vilven, 1st Lt. U.S. Air force, Wichita, Kansas, Dorothy (Dede) Vilven, Salt Lake City, and Kelly Vilven, Auburn Washington; his sister, Wanda Omer, Albuquerque, New Mexico; two nephews and several cousins. Preceded in death by his daughter Marsha.
His ashes will be returned to Wamego, Kansas, for a graveside service and burial.
The family thanks the staff at the Garden Terrace Alzheimer's Center for all their care and attention to Wallace.
