Wanda Hunt Huffaker

Wanda Hunt Huffaker, better known as Mom, Grandma, Grandma-great (grape), Bisa, passed away at her home in Kearns, Utah, on July 24, 2025. Born on November 11, 1936, in Buhl, Idaho, to Nephi Ralston and Edith Wilma Hunt.

Raised on the farm where she was born in Melon Valley, she learned the importance of hard work. With their multitude of fields and orchards, they grew all kinds of vegetables and fruits. One of her favorites being Bermuda Onions. She hated topping onions; it was hard work, but they were sweet, and she would eat them fresh like some of us eat apples. She also claimed her dad grew the best melons anywhere. She loved sharing her memories from her time on the farm, milking the cows, tromping the hay, and walking to her one-room schoolhouse, to remind us how easy our city life was.

After graduating from Buhl High School, she went to BYU, where she met the love of her life, Glenn Huffaker, at a dance. After one of their dates, she drew a heart with their initials in it on the interior of his brand-new car. Despite that fact, they got married on June 15, 1956, in the Logan Utah Temple. In 1962, they bought their home in Kearns, where they raised their 8 kids and where she lived the rest of her life.

One thing she took great pride and joy in was making cakes. After taking a decorating class, her creativity took off. When Dad asked for a plain cake, she made him a “jet plane” cake. We had train cakes with each train car hauling a different thing, doll cakes with big fancy dresses, a Liberty Bell, sheet music, basketball (Jazz) cake, superheroes, and many more. As she got older, they got simpler, but she kept making them as long as she could. The last one being a MacBook for Solomon’s birthday a couple of years ago. She made wedding cakes for most of her kids and grandkids.

Mom was a stay-at-home mom, a homemaker, who devoted her life to taking care of her family and making sure our needs were met. She loved to quilt, garden, and sew. Not only was she known for her homemade bread and cinnamon rolls, but also for her knitted slippers. She must have made over 1000 pairs. She loved to make them and give them away as Christmas presents. She made slippers of every color, with some of them being multi-colored, so she could use up the scraps of yarn. We always looked forward to Christmas when we would get a new pair and couldn’t wait to see what kind of combination she had come up with.

She believed in duty to God and country. Religion was a very important part of her life. As an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she served in many callings, including Relief Society President, Primary President, Cub Scout leader, Sunday School Teacher, and many more. She loved the Wednesday Relief Society group and all the ladies she gathered with there. She was also involved in the community, being an election poll worker for her district for many years.

Preceded in death by her husband Glenn, her parents, her siblings: Norma, Edith, Clarence, Jack, Juanita, daughter-in-laws: Kerry, Krissy, Diann, and grandson Christopher. She is survived by siblings Iris, Alene, Nina, and Gene, her children Wanda Mae, Warren (Margie), Dale (Belinda), Elwynn (Dana), Troy, Angela (Troy) Powell, Garth (Mandi), Solomon, and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

We would like to give a special thanks to her care team from Atlas Hospice, Tiki, Jaiden, and Lily, who took such good care of her. Putting up with her “spicy” attitude and showing her such love and compassion even on her hard days.

Services are scheduled for 12 noon on Friday, August 1, 2025, with a viewing from 11-11:45 at the LDS Stake Center located at 4715 South 4300 West, Kearns, Utah. A viewing will be held on Thursday, July 31, 2025, from 6-8 pm, also at that same church location. Interment following services at Redwood Memorial Cemetery, 6500 South Redwood Road, West Jordan, Utah
