Our loving father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend passed away on October 4, 2023 at the age of 85. He was born on May 13, 1938 in Aurora, Utah to Conrad C. and DeLora Ogilvie Payne. Their family later moved to the Avenues of Salt Lake City where he attended East School, graduating in 1957. Weldon met the love of his life, Colleen, during church functions in Salt Lake City and they were later married in 1964.
Weldon was very proud to serve his country in the Army National Guard stationed at Fort Ord. He enjoyed working many jobs at Kennecott Copper for over 30 years, his favorite being a Carman, however his favorite part-time work was as a carpet installer where he could take his boys to work with him. Weldon’s greatest passion in life was the support of his family and his granddaughters were the pride of his life. He was such an amazing, nurturing, loving father and role model.
Weldon was preceded in death by his loving wife of 52 years, Colleen, Brothers Claire (Ruth), Dean (Darline), Kent (Helen), Sisters Guila (Smith) & Varna (James). Survived by his 4 children, Gordon, Gayle, Gary (Deidra) & Tammy, 3 grandchildren Makyla (Steven), Katrina (Shiloh), Ashley (Kaleb) & one great grandchild, Grayson.
Weldon touched many lives in big and small ways, always willing to help anyone around him and he will be missed greatly. Our family wishes to express special gratitude to the staff of Riverway Assisted Living & iCare Home Health for their exceptional care. Our family also requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Weldon's memory to the Diabetes or Alzheimer's disease Foundations.
In honoring our parents’ wishes there will be no funeral services. We will have a private graveside memorial for close family and friends on October 14, 2023 at 2:00 pm at Historic Holladay Memorial park and Peace Mausoleum, 4900 Memorial Lane Holladay, UT 84117.
