Wellyn Lavar Koontz, 92, of Salt Lake City, Utah, passed away into the arms of his loving Savior Jesus Christ on February 12, 2024. He was born on February 6, 1932, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Zola Stark and Floyd William Koontz.
Wellyn was an energetic individual who was known for being a good father and husband. He had a passion for life and enjoyed spending time with his family. Wellyn is survived by his wife of 65 years Elaine S. Koontz (deceased on February 18, 2024) also daughter Shelley (Dave) Beacco, son Kevin (Valerie) Koontz, and daughter Jennifer (John) Rausch. He was a proud grandfather to 10 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Wellyn was preceded in death by his parents, siblings June Record, Wayne Koontz, and Jean Sweat, also 1 granddaughter and 2 great grandchildren.
In his early years, Wellyn graduated from Granite High School. He then went on to serve in the United States Air Force as a cook. Wellyn proudly contributed to the military and its mission. After his military service, Wellyn had a successful career. He worked at Hercules Inc. for 20 years and was also the proud owner of Pioneer Golf. Wellyn had a passion for golfing, family picnics, stamp collecting with his son Kevin, and solving jigsaw puzzles during his free time.
Wellyn will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all those who had the pleasure of knowing him. His memory will be cherished forever.
Elaine S. Koontz, age 85, passed away into the arms of her loving Savior Jesus Christ on February 18, 2024, in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was born on April 8, 1938, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Mary Ashton Searle and Kenneth Bryce Searle.
Elaine was a happy homemaker, known for her kindness and love for her family. Elaine is survived by her loving children, Shelley (Dave) Beacco, Kevin (Valerie) Koontz, and Jennifer (John) Rausch. She was also blessed with 10 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren, who brought great joy to her life. Elaine was preceded in death by her parents, husband Wellyn (deceased on February 12, 2024), brother, Kenneth B. Searle Jr. as well as 1 granddaughter and 2 great-grandchildren.
Elaine attended South High School and had a passion for homemaking and cooking. She enjoyed hosting family picnics and cherished the time spent with her grandchildren, always lending a helping hand.
Elaine will be deeply missed by her family and friends. Her memory will forever be cherished in their hearts.
A Joint Graveside Service was held on Mar. 2, 2024 for Elaine and Wellyn at Memorial Lake Hills Mortuary & Cemetery, located at 10055 South State Street, Sandy, Utah 84070.
