Wesley E Nordgren

October 14, 1922 — May 9, 2015

Our precious father, grandfather, and friend, Wesley E Nordgren, passed away on May 9, 2015 at age 92. He was born on October 14, 1922 to John Nordgren and Annie Marie Richards in Salt Lake City, Utah. Wes served as a pilot in the US Navy during World War II, achieving the rank of Lieutenant. He married his sweetheart Lila Capell on December 8, 1945. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple. Wes worked as an air traffic controller prior to his retirement.

For more than 50 years, Wes and Lila cultivated a loving home on La Joya Drive filled with sweet memories and gatherings. They shared a passion for travel, fishing, golf, and bowling, and served in the Winnipeg, Ontario mission and the Salt Lake Temple. Wes was a devoted husband to Lila, caring tenderly for her until her passing in 2013.

We loved Wes for his quiet, cheerful nature and twinkle in his eye. His gentle manner earned him friends of all kinds, including the neighborhood blue jays that would eat peanuts out of his hand.

Along with the love in our hearts, Wes leaves a legacy of compassion, patience, and stalwart service.

Wesley is survived by his sister Viola Jacobson, daughter Janice Gerritsen (John), son Bradley Nordgren (Cathy), plus eight grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Many thanks go to the people at Cornerstone Hospice and The Coventry Assisted Living, who loved and cared for Wes during his declining health.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, May 15, 2015 at Holbrook Mortuary, 3251 South 2300 East, where a viewing will be held Thursday, May 14 from 6 to 8 pm, and Friday, May 15 from 9:30 to 10:30 am prior to the services.
