William Askew Barker was born Feb 8, 1915 at New Bern, NC and died May 7, 2013 at Salt Lake City, UT
Bill served 23 years in the US Navy, most of them in the Submarine Service all through WW II and most of the Korean War. He retired from the navy as a chief petty officer. He received an AA degree from Stevens-Henager College and was employed as Administrative Officer at Dugway Proving Grounds. He was an avid golfer and spent many hours on the golf course with his special "golfing buddies" after his retirement. He was a member of the LDS Church, and served in several positions during the time of his membership. He will be greatly missed by family and friends.
He was preceded in death by parents Joseph C and Nonie Benton Barker, sister Myrtle Haskell, brother Moses Barker, former wife Mary Belle Barker, and grandson Robert West. Survived by wife Charlotte House Barker, brother Joseph Barker Jr., sisters Helen Berry and Sarah McCallum, daughter Carolyn West, sons Douglas and William Barker, 11 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
Services will be held on Wed. May 15, at 12:00 at the Salt Lake East Millcreek Stake Center at 3103 East 3600 South (Craig Dr.) with a viewing from 11:00 to 11:45 am at the church prior to the service. Interment will be at the Wasatch Lawn Cemetery.
