William Claude Moulton was born on April 1, 1940, in Stockholm, St. Lawrence County, New York. He passed away on July 11, 2026, in West Jordan, Utah.
William was the second of twelve children born to Claude Asa Moulton and Jean Isabel Hunter. He married Joan Irene Dumers on June 18, 1960, in Raymondville, Norfolk, St. Lawrence County, New York. She preceded him in death on March 2, 2024. Together, they had five children: Lauri Jaquith (Bill), William (Luana), Jody Blackhurst, Jeff (Marietta), and Matt (Janae). They were blessed with 18 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. He is survived by six brothers and three sisters: Rick, Harry, Jim, Ray, Bernard, Stanley, Claudia, Ethel, and Judy. He was preceded in death by two siblings, Robert and Tommy.
William grew up on a dairy farm in upstate New York. He told people that he was "just an old farmer." His humility, however, could not hide the incredible life he lived or the impact he had on anyone who knew him. His greatest joy in life was serving others, which he always attributed to his father and mother. His father always took one of his children with him when he served neighbors, and through these early experiences, William learned how to work until the job was done and how to fix just about anything. His mother, even with twelve children to feed and care for, always invited more to her table and never had an empty cookie jar.
William served in leadership roles throughout his life, including his local 4-H organization and as a Branch President and High Council member for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, along with various other callings. He was dedicated to his family, church, work, and the communities where he lived. He spent hours teaching young people woodworking skills, automotive repair, and lawnmower maintenance. He served as a volunteer firefighter for several years. He roofed houses, shoveled snow, opened his home to others, took in foster children, and made cabinets, toy cars, cradles, baby doll cradles, and more. He won several tractor-driving competitions and enjoyed square dancing with his wife. He sacrificed his own comforts in order to help others and always did it with a smile.
About 25 years ago, he and Joan moved from upstate New York to West Jordan, Utah. As his health declined, he never felt sorry for himself but felt incredibly sad that he could no longer help others. He enjoyed making healthcare workers smile and always had a quick joke and a sincere "thank you" ready to cheer them up. He was the best example of Christlike love, and his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren will always feel grateful for their time learning from "the best."
