William Edward Sackett, born May 10, 1922 in Soldier Summit, Utah to Joseph Edward and Florence Hemming Sackett died peacefully at home on August 8, 2009. Bill lived and graduated from high school in Thistle, Utah. He served in the Navy during World War II as a Torpedo man 3rd Class on the USS Carp. He enjoyed spending time with his navy buddies and helped build the Submarine Memorial near Camp Williams, Utah. Bill married Beth Farnsworth in June 1947 in the Salt Lake City Temple. They established their home in Salt Lake City and were the parents of 5 children. Bill was a carman for the Denver & Rio Grande railroad and a design engineer for Ajax presses. He was a hard worker and worked two full time jobs for 14 years to provide a good life for his family. When he wasn't working at a paid job he was creating something for someone. He was good at fixing and building things and was willing to help out anyone. His creations included a camper that the family enjoyed for many years. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed square-dancing. He was a Scout Master and served many callings in the LDS Church including Temple Worker, Ward Financial Clerk, Stake Missionary, and Home Teacher. Later in life Bill married Kathlyn Rich-Bjorn in January 2003 in Salt Lake City. He gained an additional family and enjoyed the traveling and companionship of Kathy and her children. Dad is survived by wife, Kathlyn, and four children; Evelyn (Richard) Neese, Diane (Ted) Stephens, Bonnie (Corkey) Heuring, and Norman (Rose) Sackett; 21 Grandchildren; 29 Great-grandchildren and many other family members that will miss him dearly. He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Beth; his parents two sisters, Ruth Young & Thela Peterson; Son, Robert Lynn and two granddaughters, Malinda and Heather. Thanks for being in our lives dad. Thanks for the life lessons. We will miss you. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 12, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the Winder 12 Ward, 4350 South 1100 East. Family and friends may visit on Tuesday evening, August 11, 2009 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Holbrook Mortuary, 3251 South 2300 East and from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday morning at the church prior to services.
